The Parramatta Road corridor extends along Parramatta Road from the CBD to the City of Parramatta, generally between the main western rail line to the south and the Parramatta River to the north.
10 local councils along the length of the corridor (Auburn, Ashfield, Burwood, City of Canada Bay, City of Sydney, Holroyd City, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Parramatta City and Strathfield)
The process to transform the Parramatta Road corridor aims to bring new life to local communities living and working along the corridor. It will help create new housing choices and jobs, and consider how public and active transport connections can be improved. It includes opportunities to create better links within and between the diverse neighbourhoods along the corridor. The Draft Strategy proposes that renewal will be focused in precincts that are suitable for long term growth and change.
UrbanGrowth NSW is leading an Integrated Project Team that includes Department of Planning and Environment, Transport for NSW, Roads and Maritime Services and WestConnex Delivery Authority. The Integrated Project Team is collaborating with councils along the corridor.
Where it's up to:
The Draft Parramatta Road Urban Renewal Strategy was released for public comment in November 2014.
The public display period for the Draft Parramatta Road Urban Renewal Strategy has now ended and we thank everyone who got involved. The feedback you have given us will be used to refine the Draft and prepare a more detailed Final Draft Strategy, which will be subject to further consultation later this year.
Urban renewal is about building on the strengths of places, transforming under-used or dilapidated areas and boosting local economies to meet the needs of communities. The Parramatta Road corridor is a priority for the growth and improvement of Sydney. The vision is to transform Parramatta Road from a hostile, clogged artery to a spine of commerce and community activity. The corridor has the potential to become a better place to live, work and socialise, with improved public transport, a better public domain and quality new development.
