Council: City of Sydney
Area: 14 hectare area adjacent to the Green Square Railway Station, Zetland and located midway between the Sydney CBD and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
What’s proposed: Green Square Town Centre will rejuvenate former industrial precincts and create 410,000 square metres of floor area for mixed use development. UrbanGrowth NSW’s contribution to the Town Centre will accommodate circa 1,800 dwellings and 48,600 square metres of office space, plus 14,000 square metres of retail resulting in about 6,000 jobs. The City of Sydney are responsible for the design and delivery of community facilities such as library, plaza, open spaces and aquatic centre.
Our role: We resolved the site’s complex planning and infrastructure constraints to unlock the potential of the town centre. It is one of Australia’s largest urban transformation projects. UrbanGrowth NSW is the lead agency in collaboration with Transport for NSW, Roads and Maritime Services, the Department of Planning & Environment, Sydney Water Corporation, City of Sydney, residents and communities, industry and business groups.
Where it’s up to: Essential infrastructure civil works commenced in July 2014 with Ebsworth to be the first street to be completed by August 2015. The first building with 174 apartments, Ebsworth commenced construction in February 2015. The latest release, the tallest building in Green Square, Ovo comprising 224 apartments, saw an outstanding 92% of apartments exchange contracts following the weekend sales launch. This was the third residential release since November 2014 from UrbanGrowth NSW and Mirvac and a total of 462 apartments released for sale. In 2015, UrbanGrowth NSW has decided to bring forward the sale of a 1.35 hectare ‘superlot’ of land in the Southern Precinct to accelerate the development of Green Square Town Centre.
