Where: Badgally Road, Claymore
Area: Approx. 127ha
What’s proposed: The Claymore Urban Renewal project proposes to transform the existing public housing estate by reducing public ownership and provide an integrated tenure mix of 70% private and 30% social housing. The project will deliver approximately 1,330 dwellings over a 15 year period. The Concept Plan, approved in May 2013, is the result of extensive planning and consultation with the community and key stakeholders.
Our role: UrbanGrowth NSW is the development manager. The project is an opportunity for UrbanGrowth NSW to assist government in addressing the serious social and financial difficulties associated with the Claymore housing area. UrbanGrowth NSW is also assisting NSW Land and Housing Corporation with the renewal of the Minto and Airds Bradbury Renewal areas. The renewal of Minto has been hugely successful in achieving these aims, and it is the template that will be applied to the Claymore Urban Renewal project.
Where it is up to: Concept Plan Approval has been received for the project as well as rezoning of the site by the Minister for Planning. The development application for Stages 1 and 2 was submitted to Council on 12 May 2014.
Features: Claymore Urban Renewal will feature a new neighbourhood centre, integrated community facilities, parks and playing fields, cycleways and pedestrian links. The project will also offer a range of lots sizes plus medium density Senior and Accessible (Disability) Living Complexes.
