Where: Georges River Road, Airds and St Johns Road, Bradbury
Area: Approx. 200ha
What’s proposed: The Airds Bradbury Renewal proposes to transform the existing public housing estate by reducing public ownership from 94% and provide an integrated tenure mix of 70% private and 30% social housing. The project will deliver approximately 2,100 dwellings over a 15 year period.
The approved Concept Plan reflects the outcomes of an extensive process of consultation with the community and key stakeholders. These activities have included a number of large scale community events, like Airds OutLOUD!
Our role: UrbanGrowth NSW is the development manager. The project is an opportunity for UrbanGrowth NSW to assist government in addressing the serious social and financial difficulties associated with the Airds Bradbury public housing area. UrbanGrowth NSW is already assisting NSW Land and Housing Corporation to achieve the renewal of the Minto public housing area. The renewal of Minto has been hugely successful in achieving these aims, and it is this template that will be applied to the Airds Bradbury Renewal.
Where it’s up to: We have received Concept Plan approval for the project and rezoning of the site by the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. Subsequently, Development Approval for the first Stage of approximately 180 lots has been received and construction is due to begin mid 2014.
Features: Airds Bradbury Renewal will feature a new town centre, integrated community facilities centre, cycleways and pedestrian links, parks and playing fields and approximately 10ha of bushland area. The project will also offer a range of product types to the market at amongst the most affordable prices in Sydney.
